Marble Maintenance
Water is the best cleanser for our Italian marble ornaments - flowing, clean water.

Our outdoor marble ornaments have specially honed finishes. That honing, combined with the high density of Carrara white marble, helps to resist surface dirt.

Outdoor ornaments are easily washed down with a hose. A scrub brush can also be used with the water. Bird droppings of all colors will not permanently stain our Carrara marble. The droppings can either be scrubbed away, or left to the next rain or snow.

A few drops of mild liquid dish soap (Ivory or Dove) in a pail of warm water can be used to scrub off tougher spots with a brush, or for occasional all-over cleaning. Afterwards, hose down the ornament.

In winter, our ornaments require no covering from snow or ice. Fountain drains and pump lines must be opened and electrical lines disconnected before the first freezing weather.

Indoors, our marble ornaments, (with either polished or honed finishes), should be dusted with a soft cloth, and, as necessary, wiped with a clean, damp sponge. Rinse and wring out the sponge frequently.

We do not recommend the use of chemical treatments, or cleaners on Italian marble. Its natural beauty and our craftsmanship do not require make-up.

For extraordinary cleaning problems, we can either advise you directly or refer you to a specialist in your area.

Specialty coatings for commercial and public sites are available.

Detailed maintenance information for service personnel/owner is provided with each project.

Installation
Marble Installation
We provide installation instructions for every ornament. All installations - from a 165-lb column to a 2-ton vase and pedestal - require level and solid foundations.

The materials for the foundation are determined by the location and use of the ornament. Outdoors, a 6" - 24" base of compressed gravel can generally be used for objects up to 750 lbs. Heavier ornaments ( 350 lbs/ft2) require a concrete foundation, poured below the frost line.

Uncrating, lifting and placing marble must be undertaken with care, and advance planning.

We can provide suggestions and guidance about planning and executing the installation, as you or your client/contractor require.

Fountains require 120 v GFIC ground fault service within 5' - 10', and, for self-filling systems, a water service line.

Marble ornaments from our Frequently Requested Collection weigh between 65 lbs and 600 lbs, and require as many as four hands-on professional installers. For homeowners doing the installation themselves, we recommend that plenty of human and mechanical "muscle" is available at installation time. We will gladly advise you/your contractor about site preparation, installation techniques, and equipment.

Fountain Systems
Marble Fountain Systems
We also design and fabricate fountain systems and submersible lighting systems to fit our fountains.

Our fountain "plumbing" features threaded brass nozzles with a variety of spray patterns, brass drain stems with stainless steel debris screens, rugged Cal Pumps , sturdy pump enclosures, and other commercial grade fittings, piping and tubing.

Our brass submersible lighting systems fit fountains greater than 4' in diameter.

The 1920 Fountain and the Carriona Fountain from our Frequently Requested Collection include a fountain system, with an interchangeable 1-tier brass nozzle and a 2-tier brass nozzle. These fountains require 120 volt GFIC ground fault service within 5' - 10' of the fountain. They can be refilled with a hose, or with a self-filling system, which requires a water line to the 5'-10' point.
